Why school is failing my children by letting them pass

3 calls from 3 schools. Before noon. BEFORE FREAKING NOON!! Not just 1, not just 2, but 3. 3 calls.  Did I mention it was before noon? Yes, yes I think I did.  Did I mention I was at work? No? Oh - I WAS AT WORK!  ON THE PHONE ... with work ... and 3 schools. First call was the nurse at the oldest boys school.  Very polite and perky cheerleader voice ... but she's an idiot.  Not a bad call, except having to listen to an idiot. Not more than an hour later, I get a text from the girl child saying she received not 1 ... but 2 ... 2 detentions today.  She's made it to 11th grade without ever having had a detention.  Seriously.  Not because she didn't deserve them, but because her teachers have no spines.  Ok, some of them have spines, but some just do not.  To know the girl child, you must understand she's  bright, and I mean bright.  Highly intelligent in academics and every area ... except domestically.  Serio...

Cuz sometimes I'm judgmental and the Universe has to smack me

Every time I start to say,  "the strangest coincidences happen",  I correct myself, because I don't actually believe in coincidences.  Call it God, call it the universe, call it mother nature, whatever ... I do believe most things happen for a reason, and in the right season. It's been a slow income week for me, but not a slow week by any means. I've spent a lot of time taking care of family obligations. I've been spending time on my website and structuring my business.  But the slow weeks are the ones in which you have to stay the most motivated, so I happily accepted an offer to have a brainstorming session with one of my dearest friends yesterday.  Like I, she has a vision for the souls she encounters in her village and has an amazing vision for a business that helps break cycles of dysfunction.  We specialize in different areas, but our vision is one and the same in many ways.  We spent hours talking, and not enough hours planning, but the chatte...

So this kid had a dream ...

At the end of his 6th grade year in school,  my son, signed up for Athletics instead of PE for 7th grade and decided he wanted to try out for football. This came as quite a shock to me because, ummmmm, no.  No, he couldn't play football. Why? Why?  He didn't even watch football! You see,  I'm a football fan.  More importantly, a Cowboys fan (don't even go there ... no trash talking my boys), but for most of my son's life,  he has not watched football with me.  None of my boys,  nor my ex-husband were really football fans, so the daughter and I watched the games together. He didn't grow up throwing around a football with his dad and brothers and none of them ever played football. He was 13 and suddenly wanted football in his life.  Ummmmm,  what?  If you live in Texas,  or at least North Texas, you know this is a big deal.   We are competitive. And that's putting it mildly. Football is diehard and hardcore in The Lon...

Chaos and Needs or Needs and Chaos

I'm at the end of week 4 of voluntary unemployment from the corporate working world, but, uh, this is NOT going how I planned. At all, or really in any single way.  I was supposed to have my website done by now advertising my Girl Friday service, working as an independent contractor so I can get back on my education path and obtain the degree I should have obtained long ago. I was supposed to have work lined up and not been "off" for the past two weeks. I was supposed to have at least picked a damn business name and start a Facebook page to begin generating business.  There are about 80 gazillion other things I was supposed to have done, or at least 15, but no. No. Not even actually close to being done. The first two weeks went better than expected.  I had plenty of work and made my financial goals both weeks.  I did not expect to do that until perhaps month 2, so hey, awesome. Good job, Stacee.  Then .... it was the Friday before Spring Break and fa...
